The Influence of Altitude on Man1

چکیده
Hypoxia poses a major problem for people living at high altitudes, and also for patients suffering from various respiratory, cardiovascular, hematological, and other diseases. This paper reviews what is known about adaptations developed by permanent high-altitude dwellers and notes some areas where more information is needed. It was originally presented at Geneva as the Fourth Jacques Parisot Foundation Lecture.3

Influence of Altitude Atmospheric Pressure on Octane Requirement (RESEARCH NOTE).
The normal specifications of motor gasolines as well as their combustion characteristics in internal combustion engines are reviewed in this paper. The effective factors influencing the fuel performance, such as the molecular structure of the fuel constituents, the operating conditions and the atmospheric pressure and temperature are also discussed. A relationship between the optimum octane num...
متن کاملEffect of chronic hypoxia during the early stage of incubation on prenatal and postnatal parameters related to ascites syndrome in broiler chickens
To investigate the influence of hypoxia during the early stage of incubation on embryonic developmentand hatching events, and consequently on incidence of ascites in broiler chickens, one thousand fertile eggswere incubated in two commercial incubators. Half the eggs were incubated in a low altitude incubator untilhatched. The second half were incubated in a high altitude incubator until day 10...
متن کاملEffects of Some Parameters on Thermal Control of a LEO Satellite
Satellite thermal control ensures safe operating temperature ranges for satellite components throughout the mission life. Effects of altitude, spin, and position of satellite radiator(s) on the thermal control of a small Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite have been studied. Results show that change in satellite altitude, in the range considered here, does not produce critical thermal conditions. H...

Extended abstract 1- Introduction Various factors influence the karstification process in the dissolution of carbonate rocks. Karst is common influence result of internal morphodynamics (geological structure and lithology) and external morphodynamics (climate, altitude, vegetation, and time). They affect the karstification of the demise of carbonate rocks. Karst is the result of numerous meth...
متن کاملNuclear membrane protein MAN1: direct binding to emerin in vitro and two modes of binding to BAF
MAN1 is a vertebrate nuclear inner membrane protein that inhibits Smad signaling downstream of TGF . MAN1 has an exposed LEM-domain-containing Nterminal region (‘MAN1-N’), two transmembrane domains and an exposed Cterminal domain (‘MAN1-C’). Many regions of human MAN1 are homologous to emerin, a LEM-domain nuclear protein, loss of which causes Emery-Dreifuss muscular dystrophy (EDMD). To test t...
